China's wind power has shown explosive growth in the past decade
2024-06-12 4620Beijing, October 15th (Xinhua) - China's wind power development has achieved explosive growth in the past decade, especially from 2006 to 2010, with almost 100% of new installed capacity added every year. According to statistics from the China Wind Energy Association, in 2009, China's newly installed wind power capacity jumped to the top of all countries, and in 2010, the total installed capacity reached the world's peak.
In 2013, China added 16.1 million kilowatts of wind power installed capacity, with a cumulative installed capacity exceeding 90 million kilowatts, ranking first in both indicators in the world. At that time, China's newly installed wind power capacity accounted for 45% of the world's newly added capacity, and the cumulative installed capacity accounted for 28% of the world's cumulative installed capacity. In terms of installed capacity, China is already a true wind power powerhouse.
The Chinese government's goal is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 40% -45% compared to 2005 by 2020. As the most technologically mature clean and renewable energy, wind energy is the main force in achieving this goal.
The mid-term goal of China's wind power is to achieve a total installed capacity of 100 million kilowatts by 2015, 150 million kilowatts by 2017, and 200 million kilowatts by 2020. From the perspective of international development trends, China's position as the leader of wind power will continue to be stable.
Shi Pengfei, Honorary Chairman of the China Wind Energy Association, said, "To determine whether a country's wind power industry is strong, it depends on the amount of electricity generated. The main indicators are the proportion of wind power to total electricity, per capita wind power, and unit installed wind power generation."
According to statistics, in 2010, the proportion of wind power in the United States accounted for 2% of the country's total electricity, with a per capita wind power of 261 kilowatt hours and an installed wind power generation of 2013 kilowatt hours per kilowatt hour. In the same year, China's wind power accounted for 1.2% of the country's total electricity, with a per capita wind power of 37 kilowatt hours and an installed power generation of 1120 kilowatt hours per kilowatt of wind power.
According to the latest statistics, as of the end of 2013, the global installed capacity of wind turbines had exceeded 325 gigawatts, accounting for 6% of the total installed capacity of global power generation. According to the World Wind Energy Association, by 2020, the total installed capacity of global wind power will reach 1.231 billion kilowatts, with an annual power generation equivalent to 12% of the world's electricity demand at that time.
The report released by the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission in 2011 stated that the long-term goal of China's wind power development is to achieve a wind power installed capacity of 1 billion kilowatts by 2050, meeting 17% of electricity demand. The imminent renewable energy quota system will be another major driving force for the development of wind power in China.
